(Siyanda Zulu)
The
Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present the Pre-recitals preview concert
on October 19.
The
candidates are Bachelor of Practical Music recital students: Siyanda Zulu
(trumpet), Xolisa Dlamini (voice) and Lucky Swele (guitar) as well as Bachelor
of Music student Zibusiso Makhathini (piano).
Siyanda
“Slash” Zulu, a trumpeter from Kwadukuza is a part of Tutti, a band that plays
a regular Sunday afternoon gig at Mamas Just Jazzin’ in Durban North. He is
known for being a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger. Xolisa Dlamini
is a talented vocalist and recorded artist. She is SAMA award nominee for her
first album Times and has recorded
with various artists in South Africa (including Selaelo Selota).
Lucky
Swele grew up in Limpopo and loves Mbaqanga Music. He is a part of a trio
(Ubuciko the Art) that fuses spoken word/poetry and music. Arranger, composer
and pianist Zibusiso Makhathini will perform three numbers, two originals and a
tune by Benny Golsen.
Expect
to hear compositions and arrangements by the participants. In addition, the
students will debut some of the material they intend performing in their
recitals.
The Pre-Recitals
Concert takes place at 18h00 on October 19 at The Centre for Jazz and Popular
Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors
open at 17h30. General admission R60 (R40 pensioners, R20 students).
