ONCE UPON A FAIRY’

(Thomie Holtzhausen)

“NOT the Adult Panto? I can see the questions forming in your mind! Yes, indeed it’s that time of year again, but this time around many of the usual Adult Panto cast members are taking a breather – after 19 years, they are having a well-deserved rest. But, do not despair...

“Pencils have been sharpened; old costumes have been dusted off; and a fresh new concept has emerged to ensure that Durban audiences will be in stitches once again. From Snow White to Cinderella, the fairytales have been accumulated into this year’s production, entitled Once Upon A Fairy’” says Thomie Holtzhausen who is offering a different take and a more intimate venue, yet still with all the season’s festive froth and frolics.

Taking place at 25 Silver Avenue in Stamford Hill, the show promises plenty of double entendre, well-known songs, jokes as well as a plot that’s not difficult to follow - just don’t bring the kids. Naughty but nice, indeed!

“Yes, boys and girls,” Holtzhausen adds in adult panto style, “after many years happily spent sullying the memory of all our best loved fairytales, this year’s NOT the Adult Panto! takes us away from Neverland to Nkandla. The Evil Queen is holding onto power and tries her utmost best to prevent the wedding of the century. There are probes into alleged personal gain allegations, sex scandals and true fairytale happily ever-after moments.”

NOT the Adult Panto! will bring to light the global economic crisis, strike action, the ash cloud that prevents us from going on that annual holiday as well as the influx of unknown Christmas shoppers into every mall in the city. Escape from the harsh reality of life, let your hair down and just have fun with the cast with this brand new take on the land of fairytales!

Starring in this year’s show is adult panto legend Jaziel Vaugh’ann, who will be playing the Evil Ruler; TQ Zondi as the energetic heir and Prince; and Thomie Holtzhausen in an array of roles. The highlight of the show is the introduction of well-known rock artist Adelai Jade as Princess Cindi Spitz. She hails from Boksburg and is a biker girl to be reckoned with.

Once Upon A Fairy! is written and directed by Thomie Holtzhausen with music arrangement by Jaziel Vaugh’ann and runs from November 15 until December 30.

Performances take place from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 19h30. Patrons may bring along a picnic basket (excluding drinks) or can pre-order a variety of snack baskets from the Skyy Café next door.

The new, intimate venue is situated at 25 Silver Avenue with plenty of secure parking and easily accessible from Umgeni and Stamford Hill Roads. After the show, the bar will remain open and audiences can continue on the dance floor. The perfect year-end function as always!
