Big Little Lies, a
subversive, seven-episode miniseries with an ensemble cast that includes Oscar
winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, has just started on M-Net channel
101 on DStv.
It is a darkly comedic drama exploring a tale of murder and
mischief-while unravelling society’s myth of perfection and the contradictions
that exist beneath the idealised pretence of marriage, sex, parenting and
friendship.
Told through the eyes of three mothers, nothing is quite as
it seems in the peaceful seaside town of Monterey, California. Beautiful homes,
doting moms, successful husbands and adorable children are all the
picture-perfect factors for an ideal life. But when a single event threatens
this delicate, masterpiece façade and secrets and betrayals are ousted,
everyone quickly becomes divided, causing conflicts between the haves and the
have-nots, compromises between husbands and wives, parents and children, and
friends and neighbours.
In a town fuelled by rumours, no -one will emerge unscathed.
The stellar, ensemble cast comprises Reese Witherspoon
(Oscar®, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner, Walk
the Line); Nicole Kidman (Oscar® winner, The Hours; Golden Globe winner, Moulin
Rouge) Shailene Woodley (Golden Globe and SAG Award nominee, The Descendants); Laura Dern (Oscar®
nominee, Wild; Golden Globe winner, Enlightened); Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent); Alexander Skarsgård (The Legend of Tarzan, True Blood); Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation); James Tupper (Revenge); and Jeffrey Nordling (24,
Desperate Housewives).
Big Little Lies is
also executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and David E Kelley,
creator of Ally McBeal and The Practice.
