Currently running in
the Schreiner Gallery at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg is Faye
Spencer’s exhibition titled Departures.
The exhibition
draws together three bodies of work spanning six years of Faye Spencer’s art
production: the Office Politics
series, Indian Yellow and the Wish List projects, which include
paintings, printmaking and creative writing.
Each of the three
projects engages with notions of departure and dislocation, loss, and efforts
at recovery, in various forms. The artist is interested in the dialogue that
these different bodies of work establish internally in relation to the theme of
departure, as well as the form that this dialogue assumes across all three
projects.
Departures runs until March 12 at 17h00 in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg.
The gallery is situated opposite the Town Hall in Chief Albert Luthuli Street,
Pietermaritzburg. It is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10h00 to 17h00. Café
Tatham is open on Saturdays. Safe parking with a car guard available. More
