Stanger-based Zamar is launching her upcoming single A Love Song on March 24 at the Jainah Hall in Stanger.

Zamalinda Mbatha, known by her stage name "Zamar" which is Hebrew for "to make music (in praise of God)", started out as a gospel artist in 2006, performing for churches throughout the province of KZN. She has had the privilege of sharing the stage with RJ Benjamin and Lira at the Bassline in Johannesburg, also Zahara and Mafikizolo at the Awesome ILembe festival in Stanger. She has performed on the national televised Gospel Gold Show, as well as with Joyous Celebration.

Zamar is a very versatile musician and composes her own unique gospel music influenced by jazz, traditional and R&B. After many years of performing live, she is finally ready to officially launch her music career with a first single, titled A Love Song.

“I wrote this song about eight years ago when was still a teenager. At the time I was very excited having written the song, because it was different from my usual style of writing. It was inspired by a song by Cece Winans, "More than what I wanted". In this song he does not mention the name of God, although it is a gospel song. It is just a message of love to God. Hence I was inspired to write a "love song" for Jesus,” says Zamar

There will be a talented band joining Zamar on stage during her single launch. The band consists of: Ndumiso Gabela on piano, Zweli Nkonyane on 2ndkeys, Sifiso Dube on bass guitar. On drums, Andile Mbuyazi. Her backing vocalists are Thembeka Nxaba, Slindile Mthethwa, Nondumiso Lushaba, Sphile Mbatha, Sphelele Miya and Monwabisi Ngcobo.

“Most of the artists mentioned are friends who were around when my gift of song writing was unfolding” Says Zamar.

The launch takes place on March 24 (doors open at 18h00) at the Jainah Hall, Stanger. Barak Centre, Chief Albert Luthuli Street, Stanger (opposite Lewis). Tickets: R30.
