(Christopher Duigan)
Pietermaritzburg concert pianist, Christopher Duigan, will
present a recital of French music by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and
Jean-Phillippe Rameau at St Agnes Church in Kloof on April
20 at 19h30 and at the Tatham Art Gallery in Chief Albert Luthuli Street,
Pietermaritzburg on April 23.at 11h30.
All the compositions draw inspiration from the
East, the exotic underworld, and reflections of the magical world that
surrounds us.
From the baroque harpsichord school of the 17th century, as
represented by Rameau, to the wonderfully evocative, richly hued and sensuous
music of Ravel and Debussy, this programme includes the popular Clair de lune, Satie’s Gymnopedie and Ravel’s quixotic foray into
Spanish music Alborada del gracioso.
Duigan also makes a brief excursion into contemporary French
piano music, which adds an evocative touch to the programme.
