An exhibition by Standard Bank Young Artist
Award Winner 2016, Mohau Modisakeng, will open in the Main Exhibition Room of the Tatham Art
Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on April 9.
Mohau Modisakeng was born in Soweto in 1986
and works between Johannesburg and Cape Town. He uses his body to explore the
influence of South Africa’s violent history on how we understand our cultural,
political and social roles as human beings.
Represented through film, large-scale
photographic prints, installations and performance, Modisakeng’s work responds
to the history of the black body within the (South) African context.
The
exhibition will be opened by Professor Terence King at
11h00 on April 9. The exhibition runs in the Tatham Art Gallery’s Main
Exhibition Room until May 14, 2017, at
17h00.
The Tatham Art Gallery is situated opposite the Town
Hall in Chief Albert Luthuli
Street, Pietermaritzburg. It is open from Tuesdays
to Sundays from 10h00 to 17h00. Café Tatham is open on Saturdays. Safe parking
