Baroque 2000, who will have just returned
from giving four performances as the resident orchestra at the 2017 Harare
International Festival of the Arts, will present a concert at Mariannhill
Monastery at 11h30 on May 7.
David Snaith will be the soloist in
Telemann's viola concerto in G, and the programme includes two strikingly
programmatic pieces: Telemann's picturesque burlesque Suite, Don Quixote, and Biber's Batallia,
depicting various militaristic scenes, some in an audaciously experimental style,
extraordinary even to modern ears.
Handel's concerto grosso op6 no1 is the other work in this attractive
offering.
Tickets are R150 at the door. The Monastery
tea garden will be open, and parking is free and safe. More information: sursouth@iafrica.com, or from Michel at
