Deadline June 5, 2017, by 16h00

The 19th edition of UKZN’s Centre for Creative Arts’ annual Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience will be happening this year between August 23 and September 3, 2017, here in eThekwini, KZN.

The applications for selection to both the JOMBA! 2017 Fringe and JOMBA! 2017 Youth Fringe are now open!

Just for clarity and to guide applications:

1. The JOMBA! Fringe is an adult contemporary dance platform where between 8 and 9 short works (approx. 15mins each) are selected and supported technically. The criteria for selection via the panel is for work of excellence, professionalism, and work that is cutting edge via conceptualisation and via form and content. The application is ‘judged’ on what you send the selection panel via the applications form so make sure you give them enough information to be intrigued and excited about your work. We remind applicants that this is a contemporary dance platform.

2. The JOMBA! Youth Fringe is an open youth dance platform and ALL styles and genres of dance are considered – be these be ballet, classical Indian dance styles, Hip-Hop, traditional African dance, contemporary etc … The JOMBA! Youth Fringe is aimed at a day of celebrating youth dance culture and the vast amount of dance development and studio (and dance school) work being done in KZN. Participation is aimed at dancers under 20 years of age.

Both platforms do not come with financial support but those selected are given professional technical support in terms of the JOMBA! team of lighting designers, sound technicians, stage managers, etc.

“We are also very pleased to be announcing that for the first time, JOMBA! 2017 will be offering a “JOMBA! Pick of the Fringe” award and this comes with a cash reward of R1,000.00 (one thousand rand only). The award will be done via a panel of dance experts on the night of the JOMBA! Fringe after the end of show – independent panellists to be announced soon!” says the festival organiser, Lliane Loots
