Reni Hildenbrand will talk about The art of wine and olive oil making at
the next meeting of Arts Interadtive, an interactive group/gathering of those
interested in the betterment of the Visual Arts
Hildenbrand is a highly creative wine and
olive oil maker with a proven track record for wines and olive oils of exceptional
quality. She lives and works on her small farm in Wellington, which has 18 ha
under vines and 3,000 olive trees.She is the farmer, wine maker, olive oil
maker and marketer.
All the wines and olive oils have been
awarded prizes at some stage. She has six grape varieties: Chardonnay, Chenin
blanc, Semillon, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. She makes estate,
single vineyard wines, with great attention to best environmental practice; the
wines are all vegan friendly. In addition to the single cultivar wines, Hildenbrand
has her animal range which are blends and cuvees.
Her talk will trace the beginnings of her
interest in wine-making, her purchase of the farm in 1990; her first wines and
early experiences as a woman wine farmer and subsequent awards; her exploration
into olive oil through to becoming an internationally qualified tasting judge
and her current role as convenor of the SA Olive tasting panel and chair of the
Executive of SA Olive. She is co-author of a book entitled Olives and Olive Oil in South Africa.
During her talk, tasting samples of five of
her wines will be served; and at dinner there will be an opportunity to taste
her First Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A white and a red Hildenbrand
will be available for guests to buy for their dinner (at a significant
discount).
Cost R140 per head includes the tasting of
five wines and olive oil as well as dinner. (Drinks can be purchased)
Arts Interactive takes place on May 10 at
18h00 for 18h30 at the College Rovers Rugby Club, Kings Park Stadium, Jacko
Jackson Drive in Durban.
