SARAH PERRY-NORTJÉ TAKING CREATIVITY FORWARD

(Sarah Perry-Nortjé & her husband Hayden)

Miss KZN, Sarah Perry-Nortjé, and her husband Hayden are actively working on a creative career in the arts and entertainment industry.

This year they decided to take part in the talent competition called Talent Africa. Every year, Talent Africa scouts talented individuals from all over South Africa, through regional auditions, to perform in Johannesburg. A handful of actors, models, singers, musicians and dancers are then selected to represent South Africa every July at Talent America held in New York City, in the US.

“This year’s KZN Regionals hosted more than 200 audition pieces over a two day period! We decided we really did not have much to lose, let’s give it a shot!” says Perry-Nortjé.

‘I modelled formal wear in my modelling category and selected a comedic monologue to perform and, much to my surprise, both qualified me for Nationals! I was awarded overall first place in my age category and received the Best Model award. Such an honour.

“My husband also took away overall first place in his age category and received the highest mark for songwriter with an amazing 90%. Both acting and song writing has landed him into the Nationals. This awarded us our provincial colours for KZN in performing arts.

The Nationals were held at the Roodepoort Theatre over a week period at the beginning of April with an impressive country-wide turnout with over 2,000 pieces to be showcased! Perry-Nortjé. entered seven modelling categories and two acting pieces, Her husband entered two modelling, two acting, one songwriter and two artworks.

“We were over the moon with the results! We both got invited to represent South Africa at Talent America qualifying us for our South African Colours in Performing Arts. I received seven out of seven golds for my modelling and one gold and one bronze for acting. I was also crowned the Face of Talent Africa KZN 2017! I was over the moon! My husband received what they call a "Triple Threat", meaning he received gold in three different categories, namely music, modelling and acting. He was awarded gold and silver for acting, gold and bronze for art, gold for modelling and gold for songwriting. We have been named and now known as the "KZN Power Couple"!. We are so happy to have been a part of this experience and doing so well representing KZN at Nationals.

“From the moment we walked in we felt overwhelmed by the kindness of the talented hosts and the performers throughout that, although had travelled the world through their talents, showed such humble and kind characters to all who had attended. I have photographs of the past events and our awards and will continue to be creating content as I fulfill my duties as Miss KZN this year and pursue our careers further,” she adds.
