(Rowan Stuart)
The
Mill Sessions are bringing rock back to the midlands in the form of six-piece
ensemble, The Dave Matthews Tribute Band at Midlands Forest Lodge (home of the
Balgowan Brewery) in Caversham on June 11.
Also
performing at the gig will be Rowan Stuart and Pillar Box Red, who will bring a
folk indie-pop feel to the mix.
The
Dave Matthews Tribute Band will delight even the most ardent Dave Matthews fan.
Over the last 10 years, the band has featured a plethora of musicians and
performed on many different stages. The 2017 line-up (with a collective
experience of over 125 years) includes: Pieter Barnard (vocals); Gideon
Meintjes (drums); Garth de Meillon (bass); Leon Van der Berg (guitars); Raziela
Kosterman (violin); and Karin Groenewald (saxophones).
Following
sell-out performances at The Atterbury Theatre and The Barnyard in Pretoria
they are now touring with gigs planned in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Cape
Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. For the Caversham show they will be playing
tunes from all eight Dave Matthews studio albums, including hit singles like Ants Marching and Satellite.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist,
Stuart has created an inimitable brand of soul folk music, with pop and world
influences. Recalling Sting's imaginative storytelling, Death Cab for Cutie's sense of space and beauty, and John Mayer's
tight grooves, he uses his prowess on the guitar as the foundation for his
creativity.
Stuart’s
career came into full swing in 2014 with the release of his album Hidden Doors. He has since toured South
Africa, and opened for The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Matthew Mole and many
others.
Opening
the show will be Pillar Box Red, which is made up of three students - Bruere
Venter, Brandon Jones and James Harrison. The band, which has performed at the
Michaelhouse Rock Concert for two years in a row, are guaranteed to rock your
socks off!
Run
by avid music lovers, Di and Terry Acres, the Mill Sessions aim to offer local
residents the best South African music, delicious food from the Caversham Mill
Restaurant, local beer from the Balgowan Brewery, breath-taking views and
quality sound.
Head
to the Midlands this weekend to enjoy great South African music on a carpet of
autumn leaves. Gates open at 12 noon with the music starting at 13h30.
