The Latest Band is a new group based in
Pietermaritzburg comprising four members: S’bahle Mthembu (18) who is the bass guitarist and replacement drummer; pianist Ntokozo Ndimande (20); drummer Siphokuhle Zulu (18), and
vocalist S’nothando Mbotho (15 years).
The band started in 2014 called the Hot
coffee Band. The name was changed in 2015 when they realised there was another
band in the UK with the same name. They then changed their name to The Latest
Band.
The band needs a mentor as it is currently
unrecorded. Andile Shezi, the organiser, arranged for Concerts SA to organise a
performance with Ukhozi FM on June 25th on a live Jazz show.
The band started as a school band from
Edendale Technical High School and some of its members are still in high
school. Ntokozo Ndimande, co-founder member and pianist, is currently studying
at Creative Arts College towards a qualification in Sound Engineering and Music
production. The other co founder of the band, Sbahle Mthembu, is completing his
matric this year. Their main genre is jazz and fusion with a bit of RnB.
