The group who present
the Annual Dive Show at the Hexagon
Theatre in Pietermaritzburg have got together for a winter show to “warm the
cockles of your heart and give you an evening of nostalgia that you will
remember for a long time – until Christmas, at least!”
In That’s All Folk, Sandra Styles, Ryan
Calder, Tammy Calder, Daniel Rossouw and Katherine McClelland will perform the
ultimate in folk music from the 60’s and 70’s. The group, who are known for
their wacky humour and beautiful vocals, have taken a look at the folk revival
of the 60s and 70s and chosen a bunch of some of the era’s greatest songs and
performers.
From traditional folk
to folk pop, all the greats are there: Dylan, Baez, Donovan, Pete Seeger, Joni
Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens; as well as the lesser remembered
Tom Paxton, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Melanie, amongst many others. Even the
Beatles make an appearance with their folk influenced Norwegian Wood.
Songs we all
remember are there, from Blowin’ in the
Wind, Both Sides Now, Homeward Bound, Sounds of Silence, Mr Bojangles, to
golden oldies such as Puff the Magic
Dragon, Rambling Boy and Those were
the Days. In true folk tradition of ‘have guitar, will travel’, the
performers are accompanied by guitar only, with Ryan Calder and Daniel Rossouw
providing the expert accompaniment.
That’s All Folk runs at the Hexagon Dive from July 12 to 15 at 19h00 for 19h30. Tickets R85 Wednesday
