The Tune Recreation Committee, a jazz
outfit fronted by Mandla Mlangeni, is currently on an album launch tour which
will see them playing a show in Durban on July 29 at The Chairman.
The Cape Town –based TRC is a playground
for the interrogation, assimilation and extended extemporisation from the canon
of South African jazz heritage and takes original tunes and reinvents nods from
their influences to embracing the vibrant underground music scene of drum and
bass to Balkanology imported sounds and exporting to their own flavour, either
going into a Ghoema -tinged feel or just improvising around the melody.
The tour sees them playing material from
the debut album Voices Of Our Vision
which is available for download on iTunes and all major digital music outlets.
The quintet comprises some of Cape Town’s
finest young musicians, featuring Clement Benny on drums, Nicholas Williams on
bass, Keenan Ahrends on guitar, Mandla Mlangeni on trumpet and Mark Fransman on
alto saxophone, flute and accordion.
The show takes place on July 29 at 23h00 at
The Chairman, 146 Mahatma Gandhi Road (Point Road), Durban. Entrance R150.
