CITY LIGHTS... AND SHADOWS

“The beginnings and ends of shadow lie between the light and darkness and may be infinitely diminished and infinitely increased. Shadow is the means by which bodies display their form. The forms of bodies could not be understood in detail but for shadow.” - Leonardo da Vinci

Contemporary artists celebrate and critique aspects of living in an urban environment today in all its complexity. Whilst skyscrapers dominate our cities and plastic throw-away waste litters the ground, resourcefulness and creativity as well as nostalgia for a different set of values are examined in this show curated by Durban’s Carol Brown for Stephan Welz & Co.TM.

Artists represented include Wilma Cruise, Wayne Barker, Carl Roberts, Xavier Clarisse, Mbongeni Buthelezi, Sam Nhlengethwa, Lizette Chirrime, Sthenjwa Luthuli, Leeroy Jason, Roger Ballen, Sipho Ndlovu, Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi, Paula Louw and Nkosinathi Khumalo.

City Lights... And Shadows takes place from September 5 to 7 from 10h00 to 17h00 at the Killarney Country Club, Terrace, 60 50th St, Lower Houghton, Johannesburg. The Opening Reception will be held on September 5 at 18h00 and there will be a Curator Talk by Carol Brown on September 6 at 18h00.
