(Maeshni Naicker)
Sibaya
Casino and Entertainment Kingdom brings visitors an empoweringly funny
all-women night of hilarious comedy and laughs. The Heavyweight Comedy Jam
takes place on Women’s Day, 9 August 2017.
“Ladies
take centre stage on Women’s Day when we welcome an all-girl line-up of
hilarious comediennes for the Heavyweight Comedy Jam,” says Janet Pillay, PR
and Promotions Manager at Sibaya.
In a
salute to women, the power packed show features some of the biggest names in
comedy. With a line-up of performances by the likes of Samantha Govender,
Maeshni Naicker, Shika Budhoo, Tash and Sumantha Pillay, this is a perfect
girls’ night out, or an opportunity for the guys to spoil their ladies.
Samantha
Govender, successful and multi-talented business woman and actress, is ready to
bring the laughs to Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre stage. Govender is passionate about
performing arts. This Verulam-born go-getter is a familiar face on local TV
screens and is popularly known as ‘Rani’, the attractive rice-cooking wife in
the Spar adverts on TV.
Joining
Govender on stage is another powerful, nationally renowned actress, Maeshni
Naicker. Known for her role in Keeping Up
with the Kandasamys, this Chatsworth resident was introduced to the world
of theatre by her late father at the age of eight, when he decided to enrol her
at a drama school. Although totally glamorous and serious on some sets, Naicker
is as funny as they come and will have the audience in stitches.
Actress,
voice over artist, director and comedienne Shika Budhoo, adds her own blend of
funny-spice to this laugh-a-minute show. Raising a child, she has found the
humour in being a first-time parent and during her year on maternity leave,
wrote her new one-woman comedy show titled Birth
Masala. Budhoo has been making her mark in the entertainment industry since
graduating in 2005 with unforgettable performances on stage, radio and
television.
Natasha
Portrag, better known as Tash, is the freshest, fastest name in comedy and has
some sound advice to give on dealing with a man and his family. Her rise to
fame happened almost overnight with just a few video clips which have gone
viral in South Africa and abroad. Her solo show Have a Bash with Tash has sold out time and again. This genius
comic, who presents unscripted performances most of the time, is guaranteed to
have, especially the ladies, rolling on the floor with laughter.
To
provide a little relief for the stomach muscles, popular singer songwriter
Sumantha Pillay, will perform some feel-good songs from her albums One Voice, Dance the Beat and This is Me.
This
all-women comic spectacular is not to be missed. The Heavy Weight Comedy Jam takes place at the Sibaya iZulu Theatre
on August 9 at 15h00. Tickets booked via Computicket, Shoprite/Checkers or
Sibaya Box Office.
