Kiri Pink Nob presents: “J.BOBS LIVE – A Game Show Double Bill”, as it premiers in
Durban, at the KZNSA Gallery on August 12 at 15h00 and 19h00. Created and
hosted by venerated writer, director and performer, Jefferson Tshabalala, the
two game shows to be presented are Location
| Lekeyshini | Lokasie and Off The
Record.
Here, the overt flamboyance of the
township, meets the subdued vileness of suburbia, and the blend is as beautiful
as it is intriguing. A romantic mingle of palates that are very seldom paired
emerges. The taste makes for quite the evening of riotous entertainment.
One is the quintessential township jousting
tournament, a battle of urban suave and kasi finesse (LLL). The other locates
its crux in the holds of reserved suburbia being unleashed, a battle of quant
decorum and sharp wits (OTR). Combined, these two shows give to the audience a
fuller experiential scope of the larger South African narrative.
Every night is one of loud chants,
deafening screams, points scored, bonuses earned, victories felt, losses,
winners, losers, prizes, fines, penalties, the whole game-show shebang.
Audiences will not be cheated of all the drama, the hilarity and the sheer
entertainment value of it all. It is interactive improvised theatre like you
have never witnessed it before. The biggest player of every night is the crowd
in attendance.
This is not the ‘seat back and relax’ kind
of performance, not in the least. Here, audiences are part and parcel of the
entire experience. For those keen on a different kind of South African Theatre
