The performance by the Leon Scharnick Quartet at The Jazzy
Rainbow on August 26 is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit. This aims to
foster a love and support for live music in communities, as well as anchor
small and medium-sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and
the Western Cape.
Alto saxophonist Leon Scharnick is one of South Africa's
most exciting and promising young jazz musicians. In addition to his work as a
sideman, he teaches music and also runs his own quartet which is committed to
playing original compositions as well as a host of standard tunes from the jazz
tradition. Dalisu Dlazi (upright bass), Sanele Phakathi (piano) and Bucco Xaba (drums).
