(Hilton
College pupils will be performing the fundraiser)
The Hilton College music department will host
a special fundraising concert in the Hilton Arts Festival marquee on September
14 at 18h00.
Performing at the concert will be the
school choir, vocal ensemble, award-winning marimba bands and the school
orchestra. The musical programme includes the Bach Double Violin Concerto,
traditional South African vocal music, seventies funk, symphonic rock and a
cover of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida.
All monies raised from the concert will go
to Ingane Yami, a special village for orphaned and abandoned children in the
Dassenhoek community, near Hillcrest.
Brett Udal, director of music at Hilton
College, said the concert was part of the department’s social responsibility
programme: “Every year, we host concerts at our school for parents, boys and
the public for a good cause and this year it is Ingane Yami, Our campaign
started on June 15 with the Two Schools in Concert with the Michaelhouse music
department.
“On July 23, a trip to Ingane Yami was
organised for the Hilton music boys to meet the children at the village: to see
where they live, their school, to play games with them, to spend time singing
and playing musical instruments together. Simply, the aim was to build
meaningful and loving relationships with the children so they know that they
are loved.
“The boys at Hilton College are extremely
privileged, and are in the fortunate position to give back to society in terms
of their time and musical talent. As a school, we have a responsibility to
create our future leaders to have more heart and social responsibility for the less
fortunate,” he added.
Tickets for the concert are R180 online
through the Hilton Arts festival website: www.hiltonfestival.co.za.
The price includes a soup bar with a
gourmet cheese table, plus a wonderful evening of music entertainment. A cash
bar will be open and three prizes, sponsored by Karkloof Safari Spa, The Hilton
Bush Lodge and Pearly Grey Resorts, will be auctioned on the night.
The prizes include an all-inclusive two-day
package for two persons at the Karkloof Safari Spa; a week’s luxury
accommodation (self-catering) for a family of four at the Pearly Grey Resort in
Tenerife, Canary Islands (flights excluded) and a midweek family stay or event
