LISTEN

(Nick Wium, Alwyn Singh; Shyane Kistensamy; Sebastian Gilchrist & Marianthe Panas)

Rhumbelow Theatre at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof will host two performances of Listen – a Nick Wium Production

In her recent review on www.ArtSmart.co.za Caroline Smart wrote: “I hope that Wium will bring this highly entertaining piece of musical theatre into Durban where more people can appreciate its talent.” Her wish will become a reality on October 28 and 29, when Umhlanga musical director and producer, Nick Wium will bring this highly acclaimed musical revue to Tina’s.

Fresh from their debut at the Hilton Arts Festival, Listen is a collaboration between Wium, his Durban band, Shizam, and teenage musical theatre singing sensation, Marianthe Panas.

An ‘easy’ power ballad singer, the 16-year-old Panas’ mature, interpretive singing and incredible vocal range have made her a sought-after performer. Panas’ powerful rendition of the Dream Girls hit song, Listen, which Beyoncé catapulted into status as one of history’s musical theatre greats, and her soulful  version of Christina Aguilera’s, Burlesque hit, Something’s Got a Hold Of Me, are only two of the treats on offer.

Smart comments: ”Panas is an incredible talent. She’s not just a great singer with an impressive range but she brings a strong dramatic component to her performance … She gave the right feel of gentleness and sincerity to Don’t Cry for Me Argentina and her I Don’t Know How to Love Him was a sure-fire audience favourite ... and she looked terrific!”

Panas is supported by the talented 18-year-old Bernelee Frick, who delivers a sensual rendition of Cher’s Welcome to Burlesque and an emotionally stirring You Must Love Me.

The almost tangible synergy between the Shizam band members – sought-after session drummer, Alwyn Singh; quick-fingered guitarist, Shyane Kistensamy; seasoned and highly-respected bassist, Sebastian Gilchrist; and über experienced pianist Nick Wium - adds a fresh dimension to every Musical Theatre hit in this revue.
