London's five-star girl, Cat Simoni, takes
her audience on a musical whistle-stop tour around the world to meet her
favourite 20th century divas, singing their hit songs in eight different
languages. The production, Meet Divas
Around the World with Cat Simoni, takes place at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof from
November 3 to 5.
Walk on a beach called Ipanema and meet a
gorgeous bikini-girl called Astrid Gilberto singing to a samba rhythm, find
yourself in a club in Athens dancing to Melina Mercouri's latest hit, linger on
the streets of Paris where a 'little sparrow' they call 'Piaf' is singing her
heart out for the man she loved and lost, touch down in Sixties London where
the In-crowd are swinging Downtown to the hot sounds of Pet Clark, catch the
silky jazzy notes of an orphan girl called Ella Jane Fitzgerald on a
street-corner in Harlem, the sublime voice of a girl called Barbra in Brooklyn
and feel the heat in Hollywood when Italian sensation Sofia Loren starts
swaying with her Mambo Italiano....
In Berlin, the Cold War is on, but a
bespectacled Nana Mouskouri is raising temperatures with her hit song, Weisse Rosen and down in Mexico City a
young woman, never kissed before, is singing a song she calls Besame Mucho to a sultry rumba beat...
There are thrilling surprises waiting in
every new city when the audience board a brand new 707 to meet Cat Simoni's
delightful and deliciously retro Divas
Around the World!
The show was first performed by Simoni on
the MSC Sinfonia, between Mauritius and Reunion, and the songs are in English,
Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, German and Greek.
Divas
Around the World! is devised and directed by Paul
Spence. Performances take place on November 3 and 4 at 20h00 and on November 5
at 14h00.
