Friends of Music are proud to announce a
recital of exciting music for oboe and piano featuring the KZN Philharmonic’s new
principal oboe player, Myfanwy Price. She will be accompanied on piano by Durban’s
Liezl-Maret Jacobs.
Myfanwy Price was born and raised in the
United Kingdom. She completed both her BMUS and her Masters’ Degrees at the
Royal College of Music in London. As a passionate orchestral player, she
performed with a variety of orchestras in the UK at venues such as Carnegie
Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Royal Albert Hall. She also greatly enjoys
solo and chamber music performances.
In 2017, Price moved to Durban to take up
her current position as Principal Oboe of the KZNPO.
Liezl-Maret Jacobs obtained her D. Mus at
the University of Cape Town. Recognised as one of South Africa's leading
accompanists, she regularly performs at various venues in Durban, Stellenbosch,
Pretoria and Bloemfontein. She has given concerto performances with orchestras
in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Stellenbosch.
Their programme will include David Heath’s The Sapphire; Henri Dutilleux ‘ Sonate;
Johann Kalliwoda’s Morceau de Salon
and Robert Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro. Also on the programme are Maurice
Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin; Eugène
Bozza’s Fantaisie Pastorale; Pieskarieni
by Pēteris Vasks and La Favorita di
Donizetti by Antonio Pasculli.
The Prelude Performer for the evening will
be Tyrell Pillay, a talented pianist who matriculated from Eden College in 2017.
The concert takes place on February 6 at 19h30
at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road (K.E. Masinga Road), Durban. Tickets
R120 (R100 FOM members and R20 Orchestral / Students) available at the door.
