The performance by the Acoustic Quartet at
The Jazzy Rainbow tonight (March 2) is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit
which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as
well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng,
KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
Acoustic Quartet will be playing their
original compositions from the band’s repertoire, which stems from the
contemporary and straight jazz genre. The project is aimed at bonding young up
and coming musicians around the Durban and KwaZulu-Natal to perform their own
repertoire. Acoustic Quartet feels that there is also a need to encourage and
engage with their community and share their musical ideas in order to create
something unique by blending the musicians’ backgrounds and influences in music
and channelling that energy through compositions which push the boundaries for
both musicians and audience.
“As the baton has been handed to us as the
next generation of Durban musicians, it is important to maintain the legacy of
previous generations who paved the way for us musicians” says band member
Zolani Rafuza. The band comprises Dalisu Ndlazi on bass, Thabo Sikhakhane on
trumpet, Vuyolwethu Mjindi on piano and Zolani Rafuza on drums.
The performance takes place tonight (March 2).
