Flatfoot Dance Company will present One Time Only, an improvised dance encounter between Lucia Walker
and the eight Flatfoot dancers with Mandla Matsha on drums and various
intriguing instruments. The production will take place at Stable Theatre on May
4, 2018.
This piece is composed while you watch. The audience is
invited to make their own meanings and associations from what arises on this
occasion, in this place …
The One Time Only company
explains: “Preparing to be ready for improvised performance involves rigorous
experiments in movement, touch, thinking and play. We, as the dancers and
musicians, aspire to a state of presence that is clear and creative, calm and
energetic. Becoming more conscious of aspects of our experience, including
sensation, vision, mood, thought, intention and choice, we explore how to bring
spontaneity to our moving and composing and more presence to our performance. We
investigate what inspires us to move, how to remain open to both choice and
co-incidence and how to stay connected to ourselves, each other, the
environment, and the audience.”
Lucia Walker draws on principles from Alexander Technique,
Contact Improvisation and real-time or Instant Composition.
The Flatfoot dancers include Sifiso Khumalo, Jabu Siphika,
Zinhle Nzama, Sbonga Ndlovu, Ndumiso Dube, Siseko Duba, Qhawe Ndimande and
Mthoko Mkhwanazi - working with Lucia Walker.
There will only be one performance of One Time Only and this will take place on May 4 at 18h30 at the Stable
Theatre Underpass, 115 Johannes Nkosi Street (formerly Alice Street).
Tickets R50 only available at the door on the night. There
is no bar or coffee but patrons are welcome to bring their own.
Flatfoot Dance Company acknowledges the partnership with
Stable Theatre for One Time Only.
