The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will
present A Bass Showcase on May 30,
2018.
This show will feature the Jazz bass
students from the foundation programme, as well as first, second and third year
students of the School of Arts (Music) programme.
They will be presenting original works by
the participants and well as much-loved standards and covers. The participants
for the evening include Charles Mdakane, Solomon Riba, Freeman Gumede who will
play Au Privave with Charlie Parker's
transcription No.1", and a composition. Giyani Shangase, Blessing Thwala
and more.
Solomon King Riba is from Limpopo and is
currently a student studying towards obtaining a Bachelor Of Art(music) degree
in jazz and popular music at University of KwaZulu-Natal. His first musical
tuition he attended was in 2007 at Music Afrika Program under Tom Toomey
partnership with Mathew Matebane.
This concert will be the second to last in
a series of instrumental showcases that run over the course of the year.

(doors open at 17h30), at The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level
2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. General admission R80 (R50
