FINAL REGISTRATION CALL FOR DURBAN ACTORS STUDIO’S SHAKESPEARE PROGRAMMES.

Deadline: May 18, 2018

This is a final registration call for the Durban Actors Studio’s 2018 Shakespeare Production Programmes.

The Shakespeare Production Programme walks students through the creative production process and prepares all to perform an abridged Shakespearean play at The Playhouse, as part of the Shakespeare for School Festival.

Since 2015 Durban Actors Studio students have performed in Macbeth, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It and Merchant of Venice.

“We believe teaching students to perform Shakespeare gives them a deeper understanding of Shakespearean text; this programme enables students to use their own judgement in defining how to perform a period role, expands understanding of Shakespearean language and, subsequently, can give learners an academic advantage studying Shakespeare as part of the English curriculum,” says Gill Brunings, director of the Durban Actors Studio.

Participation in the annual Shakespeare Production Programme is split over two age groups, Senior (Grade 8-12) and Junior (Grade 4-7) – participation in this programme is open to anyone who has a passion for performance and/or wants to learn more about the world’s most successful playwright and understand why words, which were written over 400 years ago, are still relevant today.

There are currently five places left in the Junior Programme and eight places in the Senior Programme.
