(Sharon
Katz)
Join Sharon Katz of The Peace Train for two
fantastic weeks of sightseeing, music, safari, history, politics and people as she
take you on this very special Insider's tour.
The tour runs from February 8 to 21, 2019. The
all-new itinerary is perfect for first-time visitors or those wanting to return
for new experiences with us.
Limited seats so reserve your spot early -
our tours always sell-out!
We'll start in Johannesburg and learn about
the history and the present as South Africa works hard to overcome the effects
of Apartheid. Enjoy a concert in the legendary Sophiatown area where Sharon
will be honoring Miriam Makeba's protege, Abigail Kubeka.
Next stop is Soweto for a special church
service, tour of important sites, dinner on the street where Mandela and Bishop
Tutu lived, and then a first-hand opportunity to get an insider's perspective
when staying at a B&B run by local women.
Sharon Katz explains further: “After a tour
of the Cradle of Humankind, where recent archaeological finds prove that we all
have African ancestors, we're off on Safari to try our luck at spotting the Big
5.
“A special highlight is a visit to Mama
Mary's orphanage where we've been supporting children and young adults for
almost 20 years. Share your skills and talents with the children or just offer
a comforting lap and smile as we prepare a traditional South African
"braai" to eat together.
“Yes, South Africa has mountains - and
we'll be staying for two nights in the spectacular Drakensberg range while we
visit a local village to experience rural life and learn how to make baskets.
Then enjoy your choice of hiking, birdwatching, swimming, horseback riding,
zip-lining or all-terrain vehicle adventures before watching the majestic
sunset.
“Durban is next. It's the original home of
The Peace Train and our hotel is right on the Indian Ocean beachfront. You can
visit the local markets, tour the Gandhi Settlement, swim, shop, enjoy the Zulu
culture and a special concert with Sharon Katz & The Peace Train band
featuring Nonhlanhla Wanda. We'll also visit the school where Nonhlanhla
teaches and where The Peace Train has been supporting an after-school programme
for years.
“Tour ends with your choice of either Cape
Town or Swaziland for three nights.
“In Cape Town, you'll visit Robben Island
where Mandela was imprisoned, the Bo Kaap area, Table Mountain, the Company
Gardens and the Castle of Good Hope. Then enjoy your choice of either a tour to
Cape Point, the Winelands, District 6 or Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
“For those choosing Swaziland, you'll
travel first to St. Lucia for a boat ride through a hippo reserve. In
Swaziland, we'll visit a cultural village for dance and craft lessons before
touring the famous candle and glass-making operations.
“Tour includes 13 nights accommodation,
breakfast daily, two lunches, seven dinners, Safari, road & air travel
within South Africa & Swaziland, tours described above and special
concerts.”
