Clarinet and Piano Duo set to send sparks flying.
Friends of Music presents a programme of vibrant and expressive works performed by Shelley Levy (clarinet) and Pavel Timofeyevsky (piano). The duo’s recital takes place at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga Road, tomorrow evening, Tuesday May 8 at 19h30.

The internationally acclaimed duo’s wide-ranging programme features an alluring mix of music by Burgmüller, Hofmeyr, Brahms, Chausson, Debussy, Bozza and Bernstein.

Levy and Timofeyevsky have been working as a duo and together in ensembles for several years and have a vast repertoire. They have performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican in the UK and the Demetria festival and Sani International festival in Greece,  the Gothenburg opera Chamber Music Series Sweden and the Cape Town and Johannesburg Concert series in South Africa.

Shelley Levy is a South African Clarinetist now living in London. She began her studies at the University of Cape Town graduating with a performer’s diploma in 1992. She then studied further at the Geneva Conservatoire and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. She has given numerous solo and chamber music concerts in South Africa, France, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland and Canada and in the UK. She has appeared at various important venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican and has been broadcast by BBC Radio 3 with Leto Ensemble.

Pavel Timofeyevsky is a Russian-born pianist-composer who is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most exciting and compelling artists of his generation. He was educated in England, where he graduated with distinction as Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music, London. Solo and chamber music recitals, as well as concerto performances with orchestras have brought him to major concert venues in UK as well as in the USA, Russia, China, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Cyprus and India. Having made London his home and professional stomping ground, Pavel is highly sought-after as a solo performer and a chamber music partner, collaborating with some of world's finest musicians. He is a prominent member of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now scheme
