Friends of Music’s next concert will be titled If I Loved You and will feature baritone Federico Freschi and pianist Christopher Duigan joined by visiting saxophonist from Barcelona, saxophonist David Salleras.

They will perform beautiful melodies from the world of popular song, classic musicals and the world’s concert stages. Included are selections from Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Camelot and Carousel, songs in Spanish including the show-stopper, Granada, and classical art songs by Faure and Tchaikovsky.

The inclusion of the saxophone will add a haunting touch with improvised interludes and countermelodies to these well-known selections.

Also, on the programme will be Salleras and Duigan’s own creative arrangements of music by Astor Piazzolla, Salleras’ own solo Caprices and Duigan’s compositions from Indigo and Midnight Blue.

After completing postgraduate studies in History of Art, baritone Freschi studied towards a Performer’s Diploma in Opera at the UCT College of Music. He has appeared in many operas, operettas and musicals. Currently he is a full professor, and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Johannesburg.

Widely regarded one of South Africa's leading concert pianists, Duigan has performed extensively with all leading South African orchestras. He has a repertoire of more than 25 concerti. As a producer and impresario, he is the director of the widely acclaimed Music Revival which he established in 1997. Duigan is a Steinway Artist.
