The Playhouse, an Agency of the Department
of Arts and Culture, is supporting nine stage shows from in and around Durban
which will travel to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in June and July,
2018. Each will receive a preview performance at The Playhouse this weekend
with free admission to the public. The shows are:
Meeting
With Myself, a thought-provoking production presented
by Magenta Pro (Pty) Ltd in which two women share their stories as they try to
move on from the past, Written and directed by Nkosingiphile Dlamini and
featuring Lerato Ntuli, Usisikelele Ngalo, and Sanele Mbhele.

Empty
Stage, an unusual absurdist play, presented by
Behind the 4th Wall Film and Productions, in which a woman who was once an
actor interrupts a production, with intriguing consequences: Written by Edmond
Mhlongo and directed by Nothando Mchunu and featuring Ntombifuthi Mfeka and
Ayanda Khanyile.

Wilting
Lilies, a KwaMashu Community Advancement Drama
Project which deconstructs masculinity and the expectations of society by
following the journey of two brothers discovering their humanity: Written and
directed by SMS Ngcobo and featuring Mfundo Msomi and Sizwe Hlophe.

Thuma
Mina, an inspiring fusion of physical theatre,
dance, poetry, and film presented by True Life that offers a fresh and
optimistic take on South Africa’s socio-political climate:

Peace
Magents, a courageous and hard-hitting play by Ubuhle
Bomlazi that highlights the message to township youth that crime does not pay:

Truelies, an award-winning production presented by Young Outreach Artist
focusing on a young man’s challenges when sent to a psychiatric facility for
examination: Written and directed by Nkululeko Mkhize with Sbusiso Mthimkhulu
and Tokelo Tsalong.
