using mind maps, timelines and creating amazing characters on the page.
You will achieve the outcome of:
1. Creating a mind map of your own story
(short story or novel)
2. Character profiles with motivations and
backstories that add to flowing narrative
3. Gain an insight into the publishing
industry with a completed query letter and techniques on synopsis and
submission.
ZP Dala (Zainab Priya) is the author of the
Award winning debut novel What About
Meera (Penguin Random House Umuzi, 2015) and soon to be published in India
and S.Asia (Speaking Tiger, 2018)
Author of The Architecture Of Loss (Pegasus Books New York, 2017 worldwide)
and Speaking Tiger Books (S.Asia, 2018).
The novel is a shortlisted finalist in the
Clare Johnson Prize for Women's Literature in the USA.
She has also written pieces for The New
York Times Magazine, Litnet, Scroll India and various South African
publications, and was a runner up in the True stories of KwaZulu-Natal, 2014. She
is an Honorary Fellow of the International Writers Program at the University of
Iowa, and has conducted Writing courses at the Articulate Africa Festival 2017
and online MOOC talks in craft of writing in Chicago and Iowa City.
The workshop takes place on August 25 and
26, 2018, from 09h00 to 16h00. Cost R900 pp including meals and endless supply
of coffee/tea. No printed course materials will be given, as this will be an
interactive workshop setting.
Venue will be The Goodwill Manor Guesthouse
in Reservoir Hills (a weekend writer retreat can be arranged directly with The
Goodwill Manor should patrons wish to stay at the guesthouse for the workshop
and your own writing projects in a tranquil writing environment)
