INAUGURAL ACT | DALRO | NEDBANK VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP OPENS

Deadline: September 2, 2018

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) in partnership with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO) and Nedbank are proud to announce the inaugural ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Visual Arts Scholarship. This new scholarship will provide its winner with R50,000 in tertiary tuition towards a degree in visual arts at a certified South African institution. ACT CEO Marcus Desando said “The scholarship programme serves as our part of the investment towards a creative industry geared towards the youth. It is very exciting that we are able to include visual arts as part of the scholarships and I am very grateful to Nedbank and DALRO for making it possible for us to do so.”

While the monetary contribution is significant, the scholarship will also carry an element of prestige for its finalists and winners. DALRO Supervisor of Theatricals and General Licensing, Elroy Bell, expressed the organisation’s enthusiasm at this new opportunity made available to South African youth in partnership with ACT and Nedbank. He said, “As a champion of visual arts, DALRO is excited to be a part of this new development in ACT’s Scholarships Programme. There are few funding opportunities for visual arts studies, and this scholarship provides the much-needed support for South Africa’s future artists.”

Adding to the longstanding support for the South African arts and culture sector offered by Nedbank over more than two decades, the inaugural ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Visual Arts Scholarship further adds to Nedbank’s contributions. Nedbank’s Head of Cause Marketing, Tobie Badenhorst, sees this new venture as a way for Nedbank to increase its arts and culture corporate social investment portfolio in a targeted, meaningful and sustainable way. “We are pleased at this new opportunity to continue our support of the arts in South Africa and unlock the immense potential of the youth in the creative industry,” he said.

The scholarships panel of judges will invite three finalists to showcase their work at the ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Performance Arts Scholarships final held annually at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg. The final will take place on October 6, 2018, where the winners will be announced.

Registrations close on September 2, 2018.

The ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Visual Arts Scholarship 2018 application requirements are open to learners currently in grade 12 and individuals under the age of 25 who have successfully completed grade 12 and are not currently registered for study towards an undergraduate degree.

Registrants are required to fill out an online application which includes five images of five of their original works in the field of visual arts.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Collection and return of finalists’ artworks will be covered by the ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Scholarship, within reason.

The judges’ decision is final and no discussion will be entered into once the decision is made.
