ACT DEVELOPMENT GRANT IN DANCE

Deadline: October 24, 2018.

The Art & Culture Trust (ACT) is accepting applications for the ACT Development Grant in Dance.

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) and its longstanding partner Nedbank are proud to announce the second of two sets of ACT Development Grants for the 2018 funding cycle. ACT invites professional, creative dance projects, planned for realisation between February 2019 and December 2019, to apply.

Each ACT Development Grant iteration is divided into two sets of grants; one set is disbursed to emerging/mid-level artists and organisations and the other to established artists and organisations. Projects should increase organisational sustainability or skillset and have far-reaching benefits.

To be eligible for the emerging/mid-level ACT Development Grant, organisations must have one or more years’ experience working professionally and experience at managing budgets of less than R50,000. Emerging/mid-level artists must have been working professionally for at least one year. For artists to be considered established, they must have been working professionally for five or more years and have a proven track record of successful projects with budgets exceeding R50,000. For organisations to be considered established, they must have been in operation for three or more years and have a proven track record of successful projects with budgets exceeding R50,000.

Mid-level and emerging artists or organisations are eligible for one of five grants, each worth R30,000. Established artists and organisations are eligible for one of three grants, each worth R80,000. To apply for either set of ACT Development Grants, artists and organisations are invited to complete the online registration form (http://www.act.org.za/programmes/development-grants.html).

Applications close on Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Relaunched in 2018, the ACT Development Grant now features two calls for discipline-focused applications at different times of the calendar year. This second set of grants will be for projects and works with a strong dance focus. ACT CEO Marcus Desando says, “We, as a trust, are very excited about this new discipline-specific grant system, for it allows us to give opportunities to artists and organisations in a given discipline.”

As the flagship programme of the partnership between ACT and Nedbank, the ACT Development Programme has supported more than 800 organisations and projects nationwide over the past 24 years, a contribution valued at more than R21,000,000 in total. Tobie Badenhorst, Head of Group Sponsorships and Cause Marketing at Nedbank says: “We are excited to be a part of contributing to arts and culture across South Africa. Nedbank’s brand essence is all about money experts who do good and this is why we continue to fund the Arts & Culture Trust, which serves as confirmation of Nedbank’s commitment to growth and innovation in the arts.”

Only South African nationals may apply and projects must take place in South Africa. Allocation of grants is at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of ACT. The decision with regard to all applications for funding is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
