(Marianthe
Panas & Bernelee Frick)
Allow yourself to be taken on an exciting musical
theatre journey! La Lucia-based Musical Director, Nick Wium, always adds his
own personal flair to his productions, which is evident in his musical revue, Listen - a collaboration between Wium,
his Durban band, Shizam, and teenage musical theatre singing sensations
Marianthe Panas and Bernelee Frick. The show has one performance at the Hexagon
Dive in Pietermaritzburg on November 16, 2018.
An “easy” power ballad singer, the
17-year-old Panas’ mature, interpretive singing and incredible vocal range have
made her a sought-after performer. Her powerful rendition of the Dream Girls
hit song, Listen, which Beyoncé
catapulted into status as one of history’s musical theatre greats, and her
soulful version of Christina Aguilera’s, Burlesque hit, Something’s Got a Hold Of Me, are only two of the treats on offer.
In her review on artSMart (www.artsmart.co.za),
Caroline Smart wrote: “Panas is an incredible talent. She’s not just a great
singer with an impressive range but she brings a strong dramatic component to
her performance … She gave the right feel of gentleness and sincerity to Don’t Cry for Me Argentina and her I Don’t Know How to Love Him was a
sure-fire audience favourite ... and she looked terrific!”
Panas is supported by the talented
19-year-old Bernelee Frick, who delivers a sensual rendition of Cher’s Welcome to Burlesque and an emotionally
stirring You Must Love Me.
The almost tangible synergy between the
Shizam band members – sought-after session drummer, Alwyn Singh; quick-fingered
guitarist, Shyane Kistensamy; seasoned and highly-respected bassist, Sebastian
Gilchrist; and über-experienced pianist Nick Wium - adds a fresh dimension to
every musical theatre hit in this revue.
Listen has one performance on November 16 at
19h00 for 19h30 at the Hexagon Dive on the University of KZN Pietermaritzburg
campus. Tickets R120pp booked through hexagon@ukzn.ac.za
