Baroque 2000’s last concert of the Season
will be on Sunday December 23, 2018) at 11h30 at the Church of the Mariannhill
Monastery.
It will be a musical Celebration of
Christmas with a complimentary glass of champagne and savoury snacks served to conclude
the festive occasion.
Sandile Mabaso (tenor) will be the soloist
of the event, singing “Thrice Happy Love”
from Purcell’s Fairy Queen, “Deposuit Potentes” from Bach’s
Magnificat and “Comfort Ye – Ev’ry Valley
Shall be Exalted” from Handel’s Messiah.
Baroque 2000 strings will perform the “Paris Concerto” (RV 114) and “La Follia” by Vivaldi, Merula’s “Chaconne”, as well as the celebrated “Christmas Concerto” by Manfredini. It is
to be noted that champagne was perfected by Dom PĂ©rignon (1638–1715) who was a
monk and cellar master at the Benedictine abbey in Hautvillers (France) and who
lived at the same time as the various composers featured in the concert
programme. A bubbly event not to be missed!
