DISNEY'S HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 JUNIOR

Don’t miss Durban Actors' Studio’s Production of Disney's High School Musical 2 Junior, running from June 12 to 15, 2019, at The DAS Factory.

Durban Actors Studio’s Stage School Program, in association with KickstArt Theatre Productions, has given 23 young performers, aged 9 to 16, the opportunity to embark on a performance training journey like none other. Under the direction of Sanele “Sunny” Sibiya, (theatre director, choreographer and vocal coach) the young performers took part in semi-professional performance training to gear them up for their performance of Disney’s High School Musical 2 Junior (presented by arrangement with DALRO (PTY)LTD, representing Musical Theatre international, New York)

The performance will take place at The DAS Factory, at Durban Actors Studio in Umgeni Business Park. The young performers come from all walks of life and bring an eclectic energy to this Disney favourite.

The story takes place at the fabulous Lava Springs where the Wildcats of East High School take on a summer job that will change their lives. Troy Bolton (played by Ryan Robertson) accepts a job invitation from the stern Fulton (played by Carl Oosthuizen) and brings along the rest of the Wildcats when the job was meant for him and him alone – as ordered by Sharpay Evans (played by Hannah Brissett) in a plot to get Troy away from Gabriella Montez (played by Milla di Paolo), her arch enemy.

Sharpay isn’t too pleased when she finds out that all the Wildcats have tagged along and ditches Zeke Baylor (played by Brandon Strydom) and the brand new Sharpay that promised to be nicer and kinder. Ryan Evans (played by Savhannah Regnard) sees through her sister’s wicked ways and isn’t having it as he just wants to have a good time this summer break and aim high for the Star Dazzle Award at the Lava Springs Talent Show alongside with the Sharpettes (played by Dakota Gooderson, Jessica Lilly and Calene Lalla)!

Kelsi Nielsen (played by Tayo Hargreaves) works on a number for Troy, Gabriella and the Wildcats for the Talent Show and it’s a banger! Jack Scott (played by Caohme Lalla) encourages Kelsi every step of the way and the Wildcats are set to sing together again at the talent show – or so they thought! Sharpay gets word of what Kelsi is planning and persuades Kelsi to rearrange Troy and Gabriella’s number for Sharpay and Troy. Troy is not too pleased to sing with Sharpay but Sharpay weaves in that her dad can help him get a scholarship for college, something Troy really needs – Troy feels as if he has no choice and decides to sing with Sharpay.

Meanwhile Taylor McKessie (played by Madison Opland) gives Gabriella a big “I told you so” when Troy is late again for another Talent Show rehearsal. Gabriella does not like who Troy has become especially because they never have time to spend together because of Sharpay’s attempts to always keep them apart. It all doesn’t look so great for Troy and the Wildcats as the Wildcats remind Troy of his famous catchphrase “All for one and one for all”. Out of all the Wildcats, Chad Danforth (played by Amani Langa), who is supposed to be Troy’s best friend, is most upset for not telling him or the Wildcats about seeing the Redhawks and the scholarship opportunity. Chad and Troy’s friendship is at jeopardy as Troy expresses that he worked hard for this opportunity and they should do the same! As Troy and the Wildcats grow apart, Ryan seems to grow more and more fond of the Wildcats as they are convinced that Ryan will help them win the Talent Show with his mad skills!

Friendships tested, difficult decisions arise, and Troy Bolton gets some handy advice from Fulton and decides to start making his own decisions. He tells Sharpay that he doesn’t want to sing with her, apologises to the Wildcats and they finish off the Lava Springs Talent show as a team again, stronger than ever.
