The theme for this semester’s African Music
Ensembles Lunch Hour Concert is “siyimbumba” (we are together/united).
Dr Patricia Opondo, who heads the programme,
says: “The African Music and Dance (AMD) programme present a variety of
performances from across the continent to highlight the need to be united
against issues that confront us as Africans. Recent events on the continent
position us to reflect on our differences and creatively explore what brings us
together. Our recent solidarity towards flood victims in the region provides
ample evidence of our united achievement.
“The AMD programme in solidarity unite in
an eclectic mix of performances to highlight the essence of peace and unity,
“we stand united with our brothers in these difficult times”.
“We invite you to come experience a
repertoire that includes a fusion of Tswana dance movements with contemporary
dance elements, Ghanaian atenteben and kpanlogo dance, and a production on the
history of the Zulu nation enlivened with Mzansi dance during our free lunch
hour concert.”

(We are United) takes place on May 13 from 12h15 to
