ABOMHLABA(THI)

The KZNSA Gallery offers an invitation to Abomhlaba(Thi) this Friday, June 7, 2019. Presented by Mhayise Productions and choreographed by Musa Hlatshwayo, the dance cast includes Njabulo Thabethe, Aphelele Nyawose and Snethemba Khuzwayo. Lighting and sound is by Lerato Ledwaba

Abomhlaba(Thi) (the title) is a noun that combines three words that make an affirmative statement i.e. abantu bomhlaba yithi (The people of the soil/earth are us.)
A dance theatre piece inspired by the Honourable Credo Mutwa’s stories around the creation of abantu, umhlaba and the on-going quest to embrace our existence between physical and spiritual realms in time and in space.

Set in post-colonialism and post-apartheid (South) Africa and structured in thought-provoking unfolding episodes, the piece sees a trio of characters explore notions of citizenship, the search for belonging, the genetic and inherited nomadic nature in a land that once had no borders, and the notion of there being no name for ‘stranger’ in African vernacular languages. Through the unfolding journey, they find themselves tracing trek-lines, footsteps and bloodlines that lead towards an introspection of who they are in a land torn by the histories of our past, present and future.

Tickets R80 (R60 pensioners and students). Pre-book R100 pp admission, email strubuntu@gmail.com

The programme starts at 19h00 and the KZNSA Arts Cafe and bar will be open from 17h00 to 20h30. Performance length is 55 minutes.
