The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) invites
dancers to attend its Creative (un)Conference taking place on Saturday, July 20,
2019, in Maboneng, Johannesburg. The rigorous programme is a professional
development workshop for dancers in their first three years of professional
practice who are looking to raise their career profile and develop their
business acumen as individual performers or choreographers.
The one-day course includes practical
guidance presented by Moving into Dance Mophatong’s CEO, Nadia Virasamy, on
making one’s professional profile an asset which is ready for proposals,
residencies and applications. Nadia will also discuss value chains in the South
African dance landscape and how to monetise your time and talent.
The Vuyani Dance Theatre (VDT) will share
lessons that the organisation has learnt in the 20 years of its existence. VDT
will also lead a professional photo shoot with acclaimed photographer John
Hogg, from which participating dancers will leave with a personalised
photographic portfolio, including individual images and choreographed group
images.
The day will conclude with an experimental,
interdisciplinary expression of serious play in a process-driven exercise
presented to no audience. Award-winning dancer and choreographer David T April
will lead this session.
The workshop is limited to 10 participants
and will take place on Saturday, July 20 in Maboneng, Johannesburg. In order to
be considered, email a 50-100 word motivation and one reference to
anastasia@act.org.za for an undisclosed panel to review.
NB: Only successful applicants will be
contacted with further information.
Deadline: Monday, July 8, 2019.
