Friends of Music will present internationally
renowned solo double bassist James Osei accompanied by Andrea Vasi, a leading
collaborative pianist from the Netherlands, at their next recital on July 23,
2019.
James Oesi is truly blazing new trails for
double bassists worldwide. Traditionally, the double bass is not necessarily
seen as a full-fledged solo instrument. But bassist James Oesi, born in
England, growing up in South Africa, studying in Russia, and now living in the
Netherlands, is stretching the limits. Together with his regular duo partner,
pianist Andrea Vasi, he brings a recital that is dedicated to three great
sonatas.
Originally not written for the bass, but
for cello or violin and piano. Oesi plays these timeless works on his
contrabass in a most intimate way, with bravado and masterly perfection. In
Vasi he finds his musical counterpart; from start to finish, their intimate
dialogue will keep the listener in suspense.
