KZN members of 67 Blankets for Nelson
Mandela Day joined hundreds of other members across South Africa to spread some
winter warmth on July 9, 2019.
For the sixth year in succession, the
organisation distributed scarves to those needing some help to keep warm during
the cold season. KZN “Knitwits”, as they are known, displayed scarves on the
railings outside St. Mary's Hospital in Mariannhill.
Each scarf had been handmade
by Durban members of the organisation, who either knitted or crocheted 300
scarves for this year's Secret Scarf Shhh #SSS mission in the greater Durban
area.
On what was initially a very quiet
afternoon at the Hospital, the scarves soon attracted an interested crowd. As
word spread, the scarves were quickly snapped up by delighted patients, members
of staff and passers-by, all wreathed in smiles. Women who had just given birth
or who were visiting the hospital for an ante-natal check-up also received tiny
beanies for their new-borns

Another event took place at Mudpies at the
Bluff on July 13, 2019. Events coming up around Durban include a gathering at
the Wimpy, Pavilion (on the Game side) on Thursday July 18 to celebrate Mandela
Day from 09h00 to 11h00.
