(Riley G)

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will present The Riley G Collective part 2 on July 31, 2019.

Riley G is a Durban-based drummer who performs with various bands playing different styles of music such as Jazz, Pop, Latin Jazz, House and Soul. He is currently the drum teacher at Kearsney College and also teaches music privately. He has performed with many artists such as Jan Lundgren, Hugh Masekela, Raphael Clarkson and Lloyd Cele to name a few.

Riley is influenced by music greats such as Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, Elvin Jones, Antonio Sanchez, John Pattitucci and Steve Gadd. As part of his Masters degree, this is the second band that Riley G has put together. This band not only consists of brilliant musicians, but also composers and arrangers in their own right.

The band’s sound can be described as electric/acoustic, rooted in the realm of Jazz with African and European influences. The band will perform Riley’s compositions as well as some of his arrangements of jazz standards and popular music.

The Riley G collection part two will feature Riley Giandhari on drums, Sebastian Goldswain and  Dane Francis on guitar, Dalisu Ndlanzi on bass, and Burton Naidoo on piano.
