Nedbank and The Arts and Culture Trust
(ACT), have announced that one of the projects sponsored by the Arts &
Culture Trust Grant and Nedbank Scholarships Programme is set to be staged this
year.
For the last 10 years, Nedbank in
partnership with ACT has sponsored deserving young people with funding for
studying towards a performing arts or visual arts degree at a South African
tertiary institution.
Grieving and dealing with death and trauma
are themes explored through singing, movement and dance in Orphée et Eurydice, which will be staged in the first week of
September at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.
It is sponsored by a development grant from
the Arts & Culture Trust. 'I love the Orpheus myth; it resonates with
everyone,' says artistic director Matthew Wild. 'In the production, we
investigate the idea of trauma and loss of a loved one. It's a profound topic
to explore on stage in South Africa, where we experience a lot of premature
loss through violence and illness.'
