BATTLE OF THE BANDS SEMI-FINALS

Soloist’s go head to head in semi-finals at Liberty Midlands Mall!

It’s week five of the Battle of the Bands at Liberty Midlands Mall, and this Saturday, August 17, 2019, the pressure is on for the finalist bands and artists as they vie for the title.

The mall’s epic Battle of the Bands event has seen some extremely inspiring performances by the province’s exciting new musical talents, who each week, have taken to the stage to compete for the grand prize of R10,000 and the opportunity to perform future gigs at the mall.

Last weekend, August 10, saw soloists Matt Gardiner and Dos Jola (Zakhele Majola) go through to the semifinals this weekend.

Matt Gardiner is a young musician, singer, songwriter and producer born and bred in Pietermaritzburg, whose dream was always to turn his passion for music into a career. He began playing guitar towards the end of his junior school years, after being inspired by his dad. His music career began by partaking in musical productions during his high school years at Maritzburg College. He has opened for the likes of Matthew Mole, Prime Circle, Desmond and the Tutus, Josh Wantie, Majozi, Shortstraw, Mi Casa, December Streets, Just Jinjer and Arno Carstens.

Dos Jola, the second soloist to get through to the semifinals was born in Esikhaleni and grew up in Pietermaritzburg. His music genre is Afro Folk, Afro Pop, Afro House and Kwaito. He began performing in high school, and his music idols include Xolile Ndlovu, Lingamusiq, Tyrone, Dj Clasa, Colours of Sound. He is currently releasing his debut next month.

This Saturday, August 17, will see the six bands Tracing Circles, Fill_the_Blank, Brown Jam, Many Moore and after much deliberation have included wildcard Acoustiq Assassins who will all go head to head to see who makes it through to the semifinals.
