CENTRE FOR JAZZ GUITAR SHOWCASE

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present the Guitar Showcase on September 4, 2019.

This show will feature the UKZN School of Arts Jazz guitar students who will present jazz standards, famous songs and some originals. The participants for the evening include Mkhanyisi Ngubelanga, Samkelo Chamane, Damien Roodt, Dimitri Barry, and Jesse Smith.

The Guitar Showcase will also feature special guest, UKZN alumni Dane Francis.

Born in the small town of Kwadukuza, Dane Francis is now a well-recognised local and international artist who is a passionate, talented and skilled musician. His love for music allows him to be skilled in playing and teaching all instruments. He studied Jazz and Popular music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and currently teaches music at Trinityhouse Palm Lakes and is the Founder of the Dane Francis Music and Production school.

His impact in the music and entertainment industry reaches beyond the boundaries of South Africa.  He has played in some of the best hotels in the Middle East over the past few years including, Intercontinental Regency Bahrain, Hilton Abu Dabhi, Intercontinental Dohar Qatar, Danat Hotel and Resort Al Ain and the Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai. Francis has also won numerous accolades and awards for his musical performances including The Best Jazz Band at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World; and a recording contract at the KZN Music House for The Best Music artist in 2011 hosted by Natalie Rungan & Ernie Smith.

Expect to hear songs like Motherland by Jimmy Dludlu, Fragile by Sting and standards such as Days of Wine And Roses by Henry Mancini, Bluesette by Toots Thielemans, My Funny Valentine by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart, Night has a Thousand Eyes by Buddy Bernier and Jerry Brainin, Impressions by John Coltrane and In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington.

Join The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus on September 4 at 18h00 (doors open at 17h30). General admission R80 (R50 pensioners, R25 students).
