(Nombuso
Ratsha)
The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will
present final year jazz vocalist Nombuso Ratsha live on August 16, 2019. Ratsha
was born and raised in Richmond Farm in Durban. She is a jazz vocalist,
composer and arranger and has been a member of the UKZN Big band for over two
years. She will be performing various jazz standards, combining jazz with other
genres such as opera, and her very own compositions.
Ratsha will be joined by Freeman Gumede
(bass), Lesedi Tlholoe (drums), Sihle Mkhize and Ayanda Mfiki (piano), Boy
Mokhatla (the drummer for Standard Bank National Youth Band 2019), Andiswa
Maduna, Mbuso Nxumalo (UKZN choir’s music director), Nomthandazo Madiya and
Menzi Cele on vocals also with special guest Dr Christopher Cockburn on piano,
and opera students Phila Mashabane and Luxolo Mahlasela.
The concert takes place on August 16 at 19h00
(doors open at 18h00) at the Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level 2,
Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus .
The concert will also serve as women’s
month celebration. Ticket R60 at the door.
