Gwacela)
The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will
present dynamic female bassist and vocalist Sibongile Gwacela on August 27, 2019.
Originally from Durban, she studied Jazz
Music at Tshwane University of Technology. Her musical journey began at Macufe
Jazz Festival, when she opened a stage for the late Busi Mhlongo., Letta Mbuli
and Thandiswa Mazwayi.
Gwacela has performed in many Jazz
Festivals in South Africa such as Hazelmere Dam Jazz Fest, Standard Bank Joy of
Jazz, Macufe Festival Soweto Jazz Fest and many more. She has worked with many
great musicians in the industry. She has also performed in Egypt, Algeria, Malaysia
and Uganda and Indonesia.

with Bucco Xaba on drums, Lungelo Ngcobo on piano, and Thabo Sikhakane on trumpet
at The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at
UKZN Howard College Campus on August 27, 2019, at 18h00 (doors open at 17h30)
