HILTON ARTS FESTIVAL: THANKS FOR THE MELODIES

(Anthony Stonier & Karen Campbell-Gillies)

The entertaining show gave the audience exactly what they wanted. (Review by Caroline Smart)

Recently seen at the 2019 Hilton Arts Festival, Thanks for the Melodies featured popular performers Karen Campbell-Gillies and Anthony Stonier. It was really great to see these two back on stage together again and the entertaining show gave the audience exactly what they wanted.

The programme included well-known and much-loved songs such as Let’s Do It, Hey, Old Friends, The Way We Were, My Favourite Things and Happy Days are Here Again as well as If I Ain’t Got You. All well-chosen titles for the theme of their show.

They first met all of 24 years ago, having appeared in Sue Clarence’s adult pantomime Sinderella at the Playhouse’s former Cellar supper theatre venue and have remained firm friends ever since.

The staging couldn’t have been simpler with just two bar stools. The only changes were the different costumes they used, all with an elegant touch.

The rapport is obvious between them and their light-hearted banter and teasing raised many smiles.

Memorable numbers were Stonier’s Living Alone and I Like It and She as well as Campbell-Gillies’ Crazy and Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. – Caroline Smart
