(Neil
Coppen)
Lalela
uLwandle (listen to the many stories of the sea) is
the new production from Empatheatre, a group of researcher-activist-theatre
makers, which will tour to towns in KZN before having a formal theatre run in
the UKZN’s Square Space Theatre from October 15 to 19, 2019.
In Lalela uLwandle,Empatheatre want to
challenge the notion that the seabed is the new Terra Nullis - holding untold
riches with no-one to claim it as their home. Empatheatre is led by
Durban-based multiple award-winning playwright and director Neil Coppen,
together with professional Durban-based actor and collaborator, Mpume Mtombeni,
and researchers Dr Dylan McGarry, Kira Erwin, Taryn Pereira and others.
Empatheatre has cast three respected Durban actors for the KZN run: Mpume
Mtombeni, Alison Cassels and Rory Booth.
The Lalela uLwandle Empatheatre experience
will be touring the KZN coast-line from as far north in Hluhluwe, down to
Scottburgh in October. There will be public performances at the UKZN Square
Space Theatre from October 15 to 19.
